As another point about silos, they breed people that become complacent about their position with all things IT. They become relegated to single functions, close their eyes and wash, rinse and repeat. Simple because they are encouraged to focus on one job. Those are the ones to be automated. Technology changes, so must the people that support it. If you can't make it bend to business needs you will no longer have relavance.
