Thanks for the suggestion Rob. There were no signs in the event log but we eventually figured out the problem. Some machines apparently had sleep mode set and some had sleep after 15 minutes and some after 30 minutes so that was why the triggers were so sporadic. A user could leave their desk at varying times in the day and the machine went into sleep mode and caused the notification. We have since gone through and set the machines to not sleep.
